  • Anna Jensen and Kevn Kinney: Concert & Art Exhibition

Campus Gate Art Gallery 135 Dalton St.

Opening Reception time is TBD Anna Jensen's paintings are a synthesis of classical and abstract figuration. Her body of work is inspired by both trauma and exaltation. They are the fruit of years of rigorous research conducted in her home of the American South. With immense drive and rare sensitivity, Anna demonstrates the power of an individual to prevail through challenges via creative transfiguration. She is mostly self-taught yet has exhibited internationally to great acclaim over the past nearly twenty years. “My paintings are psychological landscapes and emotionally complex narratives. I combine references to art history, pop culture, natural science and personal chronicles to represent the conflicts of life. The titles are important elements. Like me the stories are at once funny and sad.” Her husband, highly acclaimed singer-songwriter Kevn Kinney, is most widely known as founder and frontman of Atlanta-based rock band Drivin N Cryin. He was recently inducted into both the Wisconsin Music Hall of Fame and Georgia Music Hall of Fame for his impactful legacy. Also, an accomplished poet, painter, and solo musician, Kinney has released multiple critically acclaimed recordings during his career having collaborated with R.E.M., Indigo Girls, the Who, and Warren Haynes among many others.

The featured potters include: Allen Gee, Liz Bloodgood, Esther Mech, Geoff Pickett, Joel Huff, Jon Brinley, Kyle Jones, Linda Suskin, Rebecca Wood, Rick Berman, Roger Jamison, Ron Myers, Stephen Hawks, and Zuzka Vaclavik. The exhibit highlights the wide range of wood-firing techniques practiced across the state, from Japanese-inspired Anagama and Noborigama kilns to the regional Tunnel and Groundhog kilns that have long defined pottery traditions in the American South. Alongside the ceramic works themselves, educational panels will help visitors understand the unique processes, kiln designs, and elemental forces—earth, fire, and air—that shape each piece. “Wood-firing is both an ancient and an evolving art,” said Emily DeFoor, Museum Director. “This exhibit celebrates the skill, experimentation, and resilience of contemporary Georgia potters who continue to rise to the challenge of this demanding process, producing works of incredible depth, character, and beauty.” The opening reception on September 26th 5:00-7:00pm will offer visitors the opportunity to meet several of the exhibiting artists, enjoy light refreshments, and experience firsthand the power and diversity of wood-fired pottery.

  • The Marshall Tucker Band

Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds 1311 Music Hall Rd, Hiawassee, Georgia, United States

When you wake up and want to put a smile on your face, you think of the songs that always manage to reach down and touch your soul the moment you hear the first note. The Marshall Tucker Band is one such group that continues to have a profound level of impact on successive generations of listeners who've been "Searchin' for a Rainbow" and found it perfectly represented by this tried-and-true Southern institution over the decades. The Marshall Tucker Band came together as a young, hungry, and quite driven six-piece outfit in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1972, having duly baptized themselves with the name of a blind piano tuner after they found it inscribed on a key to their original rehearsal space — and they've been in tune with tearing it up on live stages both big and small all across the globe ever since. Plus, the band's mighty music catalog, consisting of more than 20 studio albums and a score of live releases, has racked up multi-platinum album sales many times over. A typically rich MTB setlist is bubbling over with a healthy dose of hits like the heartfelt singalong “Heard It in a Love Song,” the insistent pleading of “Can't You See” (the signature tune of MTB's late co-founding lead guitarist and then-principal songwriter Toy Caldwell), the testifying “Fire on the Mountain,” the wanderlust gallop of “Long Hard Ride,” and the explosive testimony of “Ramblin,'” to name but a few. Special Guest: Hunter Flynn Some folks sing like they're trying to impress you. Others sing like they've got something on their heart they have to get out. Hunter Flynn falls in that second camp—and it's exactly why he stops people in their tracks. Flynn's from Pulaski County, Kentucky. But more than that—he's from somewhere deeper. Somewhere between grit and grace, sorrow and soul. He calls what he does Appalachian Soul, and I'm not sure there's a better name for it. His voice has the weight of someone who's lived through something—and he has. He walked away from a near-fatal wreck with a second chance, and since then, he's poured his entire being into music and art. He's not afraid to sing about grief, longing, or hope that comes in small doses. You'll hear that in songs like “Granny's Song” or “East Kentucky Dream.” But what really sets Hunter apart isn't just what he sings—it's how he carries it. There's no pretending. No polish for the sake of polish. Just real stories, told the way they're meant to be. He's also one of the most talented visual artists I've seen—his charcoal portraits look like they could breathe. And in a way, they do. Just like his songs, they come from a place most people never let you see. Hunter Flynn doesn't sound like anyone else. He sounds like a holler remembering. Like pain being worked through. Like a promise that the light will come, even if it's slow. If you're from here, you'll feel it like a memory. If [...]

  • A Christmas Carol – A 1940’s Radio Hour

Holly Theater 69 W Main Street

A 1940’s Christmas Carol Radio Hour presented by the Holly Theater. Seamlessly combining drama and comedy, heartbreak and hope, A 1940’s Radio Christmas Carol will sing its way into your heart. If you enjoyed 1940’s Radio Hour, step back in time once again with the Feddington Players, and get into the holiday spirit with A 1940’s Radio Christmas Carol. About the show: The long-awaited sequel to the popular The 1940’s Radio Hour. It’s Christmas Eve, 1943, and the Feddington Players are now broadcasting from a hole-in-the-wall studio in Newark, NJ, and set to present their contemporary “take” on Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. Whether it’s the noisy plumbing, missed cues, electrical blackouts, or the over-the-top theatrics of veteran actor, but radio novice, William St. Claire, this radio show is an entertaining excursion into the mayhem and madness of a live radio show. St. Claire’s escalating foibles and acting missteps propel the show to a simultaneously comedic and heart-wrenching dramatic climax: St. Claire has an on-air breakdown, and begins to connect his own life with that of the classic Dickens tale. In order to “save the show,” the company improvises an ending to Charles Dickens’ classic as a film noir mystery, featuring a hardboiled detective, a femme fatale, and an absurd rescue of Tiny Tim (and the Lindbergh baby) from the clutches of a Hitler-esque villain named Rudolf! Travis Ledoyt is a singer, songwriter and performer who gained notoriety with his tribute to Elvis Presley starting in 2001. He’s since garnered high praise from those who knew Elvis personally and was dubbed “The World’s Best Young Elvis”. He’s opened shows for Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley’s Comets and Johnny Rivers. Though based in the US, he’s performed around the globe from Hong Kong to the UK. Also, for over a decade he has headlined for Royal Caribbean. Travis was born in Greenfield, MA in 1977 – the year Elvis died. The third of five children, it was evident at an early age that Travis seemed destined to entertain. His impish behavior and clever wit were responsible for providing a good deal of levity and laughter within the Ledoyt household. He was a fan of the irreverence and chaos of the Marx Brothers and Monty Python and loved Mel Brooks movies. He and his siblings were always acting out skits in the living room or filming silly movies with the family VHS camcorder. Growing up Travis was exposed to a broad variety of musical styles from the 1940s swing up through modern pop. His fascination with music led to formal piano lessons at the age of 9. Though he enjoyed the piano, he struggled with the structured nature of learning to read music. After a few years, and inspired by the movie Great Balls of Fire, he decided to drop the lessons and learn to play by ear. His focus had shifted to that boogie-woogie and Rock and Roll style of Jerry Lee Lewis.
