Morganton, the original county seat for Fannin County, is most known for Morganton Point Recreation Area, which is located on Lake Blue Ridge. Morganton Point Recreation Area is part of the Chattahoochee National Forest and has a swimming beach and campground. Morganton Point is the only developed campground on Lake Blue Ridge. It is a great spot for camping, fishing, swimming and boating. The campground opens in April and closes at the end of October. Dates may vary due to weather and water levels. There are 43 camp sites available, 16 of which are lakefront and two group sites. Each site has a ground mounted cooking grill, picnic table, lantern pole and tent pad. City water and bathrooms are available. Morganton is also the home of Serenberry Vineyards, a farm vineyard and tasting room.
