Set in the 1890s, Hello, Dolly! is a vibrant and comedic musical that follows the story of Dolly Gallagher Levi, a bold and charismatic matchmaker in New York City. Widowed but full of life, Dolly is hired to find a wife for the wealthy but grumpy half-a-millionaire Horace Vandergelder of Yonkers. However, she has plans of her own—Dolly sets her sights on marrying Horace herself. As she schemes to win him over, Dolly also helps several young couples find love, including Horace’s niece Ermengarde and her struggling artist boyfriend Ambrose, as well as Horace’s overworked clerks Cornelius and Barnaby, who embark on a misadventurous trip to New York in search of romance and excitement. The musical features energetic dance numbers, colorful characters, and classic songs like “Put On Your Sunday Clothes,” “Before the Parade Passes By,” and the iconic title number “Hello, Dolly!” In the end, love triumphs, and Dolly reclaims her joy in life and love.
