The Aesthetic Water Releases happen in the Spring and the Fall, when Georgia Power Company releases extra water over the Tallulah Dam to bring the flow of water over the 6 waterfalls in the Gorge to a more historical flow level. The normal amount of water that flows over the dam into the Gorge is around 75 cfs (cubic feet per second). During the Aesthetic Releases, the cfs is 200. Enjoy the Falls from the North & South Rim Trails, or take the steps into the Gorge for a more “up close” view. Keep in mind that Gorge floor permits are not issued during the water releases. Bring your favorite teddy bear friend and come celebrate one of the best parts of the year at Tallulah Gorge: black bear emergence! We will learn about the yearly cycle of black bears and enjoy games, crafts, and other activities! We will be meeting at the Day Use Picnic Pavilion. Live black bears will NOT be in attendance.
