Founded in 1818, Clarkesville resides in Habersham County and is one of the earliest settled towns in Northeast Georgia. Many communities in the mountains give off that small, hometown feel, but this city emits a unique rural character.
In its beginnings, Clarkesville became one of the first major resort towns; it was inhabited by wealthy families wanting to escape the coastal, summer heat. Originally dominated by hotels for tourists, the downtown area has since transformed into a hub of quaint shops, art galleries, local restaurants and historical sites like Habersham Iron Works Manufacturing, the Victorian-era Mauldin House and the 1842 Grace Calvary Episcopal Church.
Additionally, people flock to the town’s annual festivals and events such as the Mountain Laurel Festival in the summer and the Taste of Clarkesville Festival in the fall. Explore Clarkesville to experience Southern hospitality at its finest!

Hickory Flat Pottery
The gallery connected to the pottery studio is located in a 120 year old farm house. Inside you will find potters working daily along with the work over ten artists which includes pottery, metal work, jewelry, wood and glass.
