Alpine Village Volkswanderung 5k or 10k

Second Annual Alpine Village Volkswanderung, 5K or 10K “German Style” walk on the beautiful established hiking trails alongside trout streams and foothills between Helen and Unicoi State Park Lodge. This is an AVA sanctioned walk event. For many years the Alpine Volkswanderung (trail walk) was an annual event in Helen every April, a celebration of spring in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. The celebration begins again, with a walk, many gifts and prizes available at drawing. Walk registration fee, $3.00 and $5.00 for a 2024 souvenir walk pin.

Super Stars

Come out to Smithgall Woods for an introduction to all things Starry Nights. Learn about our constellations, where to go stargazing, how to find planets, and how to navigate your way around a telescope. This class is perfect for anyone interested in Astronomy, but doesn't know where to start. There will be a class period inside before we head out to see what we can find for ourselves. The park will have two Telescopes for viewing, but feel free to bring your own to use as well. Please remember to dress for the weather. Since we will be outside, you are welcome to bring your own lawn chair for viewing comfort. $10 per person plus $5 parking or a Ga state park park pass. *Cash Only* Reservations are required.
